In today's world technology is running the show. This can be seen especially in the students that are in the classrooms. These students are now know as 21st Century learners in a digital age that has consumed them. So what are 21st Century learners? I think the following video explains it nicely!
They are computer and information literate or working towards that anyway. This means that our students have knowledge of and can efficiently use computers as well as other technology. They can gather information from multiple source, namely technology as their first choice, and use it to make decisions. So how can teachers help these 21st Century learners? Teachers help by being 21st Century teachers. This means that teachers need to have integration literacy. Teachers have to be able to integrate technology and learning to meet the needs of their students and produce desired outcomes. They have to be willing to collaborate with others because "two heads are usually better than one". They have to be adaptive, learning about new technology to help keep them current with what the students know. They have to be immediate giving students the opportunity to get immediate feedback. Today's students are a product of their technologically advanced environment, instantly gratified. Teachers also need to be communicators. Meaning that they have the ability to use various tools and technology the facilitate communication. Last but not least, they need to be strategic. Students need to see a purpose for everything they do, even involving technology. What better way to teach then to use the tools that they are most familiar with and use in their free time. So are you literate?
